The BBQ hut

An Evening in the BBQ Hut

15 July 2026

Cooking outdoors in Scotland is usually a negotiation with the forecast. The BBQ hut removes the negotiation. It's a proper wooden hut, Scandinavian in style, that sits a few steps from the Rose Pod's own decking, and it means dinner happens outside whatever the sky is doing.

How it's laid out

A central charcoal grill with a built-in chimney sits under a circular wooden dining table, with cushioned bench seating around the edge, so the whole party is sitting round the fire while dinner cooks rather than taking turns standing outside in the drizzle. To the rear there's a prep area with a fridge and all the cooking tools you need, and fairy lights are strung along the beams for the evening.

  • Plates, glasses and condiments provided
  • Marshmallows and toasting sticks provided

What to bring

Just the food. Plates, glasses and condiments are all provided, and the marshmallows and toasting sticks are already there, so the shopping list is genuinely only the things you want to cook. If you'd rather cook inside afterwards, the Rose Pod's kitchen has an electric frying pan alongside the air fryer, kettle and toaster, and all crockery and utensils are supplied.

How to get it

The BBQ hut comes exclusively with the Rose Pod — it's the only pod at Ballagan Farm with its own private cookout — and it can be added to your stay for an additional cost. It's worth securing early: there's only one hut, so get in touch once you know your dates.

And if the sauna appeals more than the smoke, that's the other pod: the Thistle Pod has the barrel sauna instead.
