45 min from the farm

Ben Lomond

The most southerly Munro, forty-five minutes from the farm. It's a full day out, not an afternoon.

Ben Lomond rises above the east shore of the loch, and at 974 metres it's the first Munro many people climb. The usual route starts at Rowardennan, at the end of the road up the east side, past Balmaha. Plan for most of the day, go prepared for the weather to change, and start early.

The reward for a day like that is coming back to a hot tub that's already hot, or the barrel sauna if you're in the Thistle Pod. If the tops are in cloud, swap it for one of the lower walks closer to home.
