The West Highland Way

Scotland's best-known long-distance path runs from Milngavie to Fort William. You can join it at Drymen or Balmaha, fifteen to twenty minutes from the farm.

You don't have to walk all ninety-odd miles to enjoy it. The stretch between Drymen and Balmaha is a good day out on its own, and it takes in Conic Hill with the classic view down the loch. Walk a section and turn back whenever suits, or keep going: it runs all the way north.

Walking the whole thing? A pod is a comfortable first or last night either side of it, with a proper bed, an en-suite and a hot tub instead of a tent.

Good to know

  • Join at Drymen (about 15 minutes) or Balmaha (about 20)
  • Drymen to Balmaha is a good single-day section
  • Dogs welcome on most of the route; keep them on a lead near livestock
  • Pubs and cafés in both villages
