Duncryne Hill (The Dumpling)

Duncryne Hill, known locally as The Dumpling, is a short climb near Gartocharn with an outsized view for the effort. It's seven minutes from the farm.

If you only have a morning, this is the walk. It's short enough to do before breakfast and the payoff is out of all proportion to the climb: a view north over Loch Lomond and its islands towards the hills. It's the best return on a walk anywhere near the farm.

For a bigger day with the same kind of view, Conic Hill above Balmaha is twenty minutes away. Both are in our guide to walks from the farm gate.

Good to know

  • Seven minutes' drive from the farm
  • A short climb: easily a morning or less
  • Wear boots; it can be muddy
  • Keep dogs on a lead near livestock
